As part of the annual marine tourism activities to usher in the new year and to further foster peace and unity among coastal communities in Southern Ijaw local government area in Bayelsa State-Nigeria, the people of Ekowe, the host community of the first Oil and Gas Federal Polytechnic in West Africa, have organised “Ekowe Unity festivals 2018”, with the “Unity Love Boat sailing from Ekowe to neighbouring communities on the River Nun.
The Blue Economy Online Magazine’s Special Correspondent, Mr Dave Polokedi Asei who is following events in the area, reports that some musicians and female dancers are entertaining the guests on board the Love Boat, which described as “luxurious local Love Boat”, with assorted local cuisines and local wine being served free of charge.
“I think, the community is moving forward and this year’s unity festival will further strengthen the bonds of unity, love and progress”, Mr Asei maintained.
He recalled that the Bayelsa state government and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), constructed concrete roads, linking the community to the Federal Polytechnic, Oil and Gas, thereby changing the phase of the community.
He said as part the crossover activities, “Tonight, all Ekowe men of God will converge to have a very powerful cross over night to usher in the people into 2019. God bless Ekowe”.
