Sustainable cities

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa Sate, Hon. David Lyon says his incoming administration will develop sustainable cities in the state, when elected into office, come November 16.

Hon. Lyon stated this when he paid homage to the Pere of Kumbowei Kingdom, HRM Pere J S Akadah, Embareba IV, M.O.N (JP) at his palace in Sagbama, headquarters of Sagbama local government area, as part of his state-wide electioneering campaigns.

The APC candidate whose acceptance is far ahead of every other candidate in the governorship race, regretted the slow pace of infrastructural development across the state, informing that his administration will run an inclusive governance where the private sector, civil society, and other partners will be incorporated into the development agenda of the state, with a view to stimulating a robust and competitive local economy where businesses can thrive and new jobs created to engage the teaming unemployed persons, particularly the youth.

Hon. Lyon lamented the serious ecological impacts on the health and well-being of residents and communities across the state, expressing deep concern about the perennial trauma the people of Sagbama in particular have gone through as a result natural disasters’

He reiterated the commitment of the APC government towards grassroots development with a view to meeting the needs of rural communities through well articulated policy responses to protect rural landscapes and proffer lasting solutions to environmental challenges, including wetland loss and beach erosion in coastal areas to attract tourists to rural areas.

In his response, the Pere of Kumbowei Kingdom, HRM Pere J S Akadah, Embareba IV, M.O.N (JP) described the APC candidate as a worthy son of Bayelsa whose philanthropic activities across the state speak volumes on his positive disposition towards grassroots development, assuring him of their votes, come November 16.

The royal father recalled that “from the grave vine we have gathered that you are a true patriotic Izon son with tract records of human empowerment programmes in the education, ICT, socio-economic sector, political and the vulnerable youth in Bayelsa state”.

“We have received authentication of your laudable support given to youths (Over thirty students in the tertiary institutions (i.e in different disciplines) under your sponsorship.

“The Pere and his traditional high chiefs say here and now that they shall give you meaningful support, come November 16, 2019.

“Your mentor (His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, (the Opuabade 1), has in time past, as governor of Bayelsa state appointed one of our own in the executive arm of government, High Chief Brass Stephen Ogulla as finance commissioner. And for six months that he held that office he impacted positively on many lives in the community and beyond and his Excellency the former governor could close his two eyes and sleep. However, it is worthy of note to say that Chief Timipre government in Bayelsa state developed young men and women in the way of human and infrastructural development.

“Sir, please and please, emulate your mentor when we vote you as governor of Bayelsa state, so that Creek Haven shall be a blissful place with you as governor. Our support is unflinching”, the royal father assured.

Highpoint of the visit was the offer of royal blessings on the candidate and his running mate by the council of chiefs.
